New Kavinsky video vs. Old Kavinsky video

Animation trumps live action some times...

I love the animated Dead Cruiser video with its plethora of allusions to all things 80's: Sega's Out Run, Risky Business, Terminator, Akira, Miami Vice, and much more all bundled into one visually splendid video.  Somehow, when they made the new Kavinsky video in live action, the cost of shooting a period car chase live action really limits the plot development, and it's a lot less interesting despite the pleasure of seeing a Testarossa in the flesh.  Also, the fact that the anemic Mustang cop car can even keep up with the Flat 12 Testarossa is sort of laughable...

Black Moon Pursuit!

Here's a fun video featuring music by Electric Youth, over scenes from the 1986 film "Black Moon Rising."  The sports car piloted by Linda Hamilton in the video is a supercar protoype called the Black Moon--which was actually a one-off Canadian-built car called the Wingho Concordia II. The space-like design appears to be based heavily on the Pininfarina Modulo concept car from 1970. I think the Concordia II was probably built on a Firebird chassis or some other domestic platform.

And now for something completely different: Bizarro Bullitt Chase Scene!

I came across this cinematic gem while trolling through youtube. It's from the 1973 film "The Seven-Ups" starring Roy Scheider. What's interesting is that not only is ace stunt driver Bill Hickman the bad guy driver in both this film as well as in Bullitt, but despite the fact that Roy Scheider is driving a Pontiac Ventura, his engine sound effects are clearly identical to those from Steve McQueen's Mustang Fastback.  I suppose the studio didn't want to waste money re-recording the sound effects!  But don't let that spoil your enjoyment of this rather good time capsule, featuring the streets of 70s NYC, the George Washington Bridge, and the Palisades Parkway in New Jersey. There is even a little Bullitt homage when the cars get airborne over some uneven NYC streets! The ending is totally insane!
