Objects of Desire: Vintage Helmet Bags

Lately I have been trolling around ebay a lot, looking at these awesome vintage helmet bags that come up for auction from time to time.  Somewhere in the far reaches of the internets are folks willing to shell out top dollar for these things. I am consistently astonished at how high the ending bids are on these items. Above is a compilation of some of the best ones I have seen on ebay so far. The upper left one is actually NOS from the 60s and had a buy it now price of over $600! Funny thing is, they aren't real leather and they are really poorly made.  BUT THEY ARE SO COOL! I want one!

Heuer Racing Chronographs under the gavel at Bonhams

Today in London, Bonhams will be auctioning off a remarkable array of vintage (Pre-TAG) Heuer watches collected over many years by Arno Haslinger, who literally "wrote the book" when it comes to collecting these fine Swiss timepieces.  Inextricably linked with motor racing, Heuers are, for me, the coolest vintage watches you could wish for.  Enjoy this video of Mr. Haslinger talking about his 4 favorite watches from his extensive collection.

For my money, I'll still take a vintage Monza!

Object of Desire: Heuer Monza Chronograph

Created to celebrate Ferrari's World Championship in 1975 with drivers Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni, the Monza Chronograph is pretty much my favorite vintage watch. The case was available in chrome plated finish or in PVD matte black. Personally, i'll take a black one.

Here are some photos of the Monza from a recent ebay auction that I failed to win..

New Obsession - Vintage Heuer Dashboard Stopwatches

I was browsing ebay the other day and discovered that I need one of these. Badly.  My fantasies of ownership were stoked by the opening bid of a trifling 20 dollars.  But, some 15 bids later, my daydreams of timing laps around Lime Rock with my very own classic Heuer Monte Carlo were shattered when the auction closed at a jaw-dropping $1428.00

Great.  Just one more unattainable motoring item to covet...

If this makes you salivate, check out a whole site devoted to Heuer dashboard timers here.
