The Lion on the Hunt

Since commenter Pilote has now stirred my boyhood memories of Elkhart Lake 1993, I have to share Nigel's blisteringly fast qualifying performance at that race--at a track he'd never seen before.  What a man, and what a season he had!

And, boy, do I miss CART at Road America. If we still had CART, I'd still be buying "Supertickets" for the weekend, as I did 1987-1999. ALMS GT last August was "good--but not DELICIOUS..." as Cookie Monster would say.

Flat out through the kink in my MG Midget was not quite as puckering as this...

Can't seem to let this one go--thanks again for the link, Bradley. Have watched it several times. At the Road America ALMS last August, the Prototypes were lifting for the Kink and the fastest GT's were BRAKING. "1000+1, 1000+2," back in the gas. This gives some idea of the speed that CART cars were carrying though the Kink. It was flat, or nearly so, in the later days of the series when the cars were developed to their highest.

Nice memories. I was also there that year and Nigel was really amazing at adapting. The ALMS/GA double header at Road America was pretty nice last August. I hope the new series is as good!! I hear Jim G is working on a special race version of the 4C with a Maserati engine. He plans on racing it in Europe but don't be suprised if it shows up over on this side of the pond next summer.
