Mangusta Love

This lovely example was on ebay a while back, and was so hot I had to save the pics. I don't think I have seen a better looking color combo on this car than black with the gold rims.  I'm not a fan of aftermarket hoods, but in this case, I think the extra "power bulge" on this car's front adds a certain aggressiveness even beyond the stock appearance. I wish I had been in a position to purchase this car. Which reminds me, please click on my google ads!!

The "power bulge" hood really is an improvement to an already spectacularly great-looking car. It breaks up the only bland surface on the Mangusta and it's subtle enough not to be a distraction or look like an add-on..

It probably adds structural rigidity to the hood, too!

that thing is beautiful. i wonder if the car really is as weird to drive as people have always said it is....

I have heard that modern suspension tuning and modern tires help a lot in curing the built-in maladies of the chassis. Apparently they were exacerbated in the era by the cross ply tires of the time.

It looks nice indeed, this bulge, except the car is mid engined, so, why?

Makes it go faster? LOL

Of course it isn't really a power bulge; that's just a convenient term for what it looks like. It provides a bit more room for luggage. One can always use more luggage space for the crumpet he'd catch with this car.

The power bulge makes no sense at all as the Mangusta design is all about honesty and reality. It also destroys one of the most beautiful and sculptural parts of the car which is the front hood. The hood shape's elegant form language is consistent with the rest of the car and it's philosophy of having more shape in the middle of a section than on the ends. take another look.

I do not know where the hood came from on that car, if it was done for someone special it may have value to preserve it. I can guarantee one thing based on the execution, it was not designed by Giugiaro but by someone who did not understand the aesthetic content.
