Classy and Glassy: Transparent Tailgates of the 70s
Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 2:34PM
I really love some of the 70s cars that have transparent tailgates. Sure they aren't safe, and sure they are vulnerable to even a minor parking mishap. But boy are they cool! It's interesting to note that this concept has recently returned to vogue somewhat with hybrid vehicles, going back to the first generation Honda Insight.

I've sent you a link for my own favorite transparent-tailgate car, Ferrari 7963 Shooting Break by Vignale, in case you would like to share it as well. It's a one-off from 1965. There are also other links for this car showing many other views.
Dear Maserati Khamsin,
WE'RE NOT WORTHY
One day she will be mine...Oh yes....She WILL be mine!
the volvo c30 has gotten in on this action recently as well..
in addition, it would make me happy to see more posts under the tag "design history" - I loved the old post you did on cars by architects and it's always great to hear a more practiced perspective on styling
You forgot the Lotus Elite from 1974-1982.
