Reaction to the Production-ready Alfa 4C

As longtime readers know, I really hated the Alfa Romeo 4C in its concept car format. I thought it was overwrought, badly proportioned, and the matte red finish really did it no favors. Now that the production version has been unveiled, I think they really improved the design a lot.  Although I am not in love with it, I think it's a truly nice looking sportscar.  I was hoping it would come in cheaper than 60,000 Euros, but I suppose it makes sense. Just one question though:  WTF is up with that side mirror protruding from the door?? That has got to be THE worst execution of a mirror I have ever seen!

I think it's the most important car to be shown at Geneva. A cf chassis at that low of a price point is a great sign of things to come. Aesthetically, I don't like the front of the car. The exposed light cluster reminds me of spider eyes, which are not sexy.

Maybe the mirror is a line-of-sight issue? Easily fixed. Lose the wheels. And yes, re-do the front light clusters. At $78,000, competitively priced with a Lotus Exige S--and needs to be.

The mirror doesn't offend me nearly as much as the lights.

Just repeating what has already been said. Mirrors are huge! And the lights are dumb. Im in love with everything else though. I do wish it was a little less expensive, but its not like I could afford it anyway. I just hope to even see one.

Those lights are really strange, but I am starting to like them for some reason. Sort of weird ugly like the 2600SZ, Junior Zagato and ES30 lights. Did Zagato have a hand in this design:)

As for the price, remember that most of the body panels are composite and they stuck with the carbon fiber tub of the concept. That contributes heavily to the cost, I'm sure.

The lights are definitely touch and go, they look far better on the white car than other colors since it makes the light pods stand out as a whole instead of as all the little LEDs. The mirrors... ugh. At least both the mirrors and the lights look far better in the video than in this particular picture.

meh! i'd take an Elise and save the $$$ and get something much better looking.

Although it is very much "Elise-looking", it should not be regarded as an alternative, but as a strong landmark for Alfa-Romeo-enthousiasts.
Lets hope, that it will receive the appropriate reaction on the market. One of the best (hopefully not the last!!!) attempts to show the strong and emotional roots of this make.
I have heard from an Alfa-Romeo man, that the lights will be substituded by more conventional ones, even the then sold cars will receive a conversion kit; but what's about the mirrors?

895 Kilograms.

That's just under 2000 pounds.

That is great great news. I too prefer the production ready design, but I hadn't noticed the mirrors, which are kind of strange, but not necessarily a deterrent, for me.

I hope this car succeeds.

What did you think of the Alfa Gloria?

I like the headlights too, and for some folk I have a feeling they were unexpected rather than ugly. If Centro Stile weren't challenging us, they wouldn't be doing their job.
