East Village 3.0 CS
Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 12:04PM
I love the BMW 3.0 CS. In fact it's definitely on my short list of cars to own some day. The power six-cylinder engine, beautiful coupe proportions, and distinctive detailing make this a favorite of mine. I discovered this rather nice example in the East Village. It was in great condition, and sporting a roof rack!

I had one almost like that only it had BBS wheels, was white and had Fuel injection. Mine was a 1973 CSI. Sold it for my 3rd Alfa.
How does a 3.0 CSI compare to a GTV6 in terms of power and handling, since I know you have owned both?
Great find. Car spotting in this city is better than I would have expected. These CS coupes are in sharp contrast to the new 6-series.
if i were to buy another bmw, i'd say the most likely candidates at this point are either the e28 m5 (if four-door) or a 3.0 cs/csi. i would prefer the latter.
Hi,
The 3.0 CSI is very rare in America and all were imported grey maket. The CSI and CS are alot less nimble than the GTV6. I considered it more of a touring cruiser. It sort of reminded me of a modernized 2600 Sprint. The CSI and CS were also alot slower off the line. This is still I think one of the most classical designs to ever come from BMW. The newer stuff
is more mainstream and generic. Some say the 507 is the best postwar, but it really does not represent what most BMW's looked like at the time. The 3.0 looks like a sleak 2002/1600 and is 100% BMW. By the way the CSI did not have a leather interior compared to most US CS's wich did.

P.S. Here is a link to the Ferrari Expo last week. Weather was sunny and nice. That is the 1959 Ferrari TDF Lemans GT class winner next to the Alfa TZ1.
