Gilded Moment of Zen

Has anyone out there heard about the Jaguar Mk2 show car where every chrome part was gold-plated?

Well, it still exists and I have seen it with my own eyes.

Actually, no. It was built for the New York Auto Show in 1959, I think!

Not many Vietnamese were living in USA in 1950s, but my uncle lived in Queens, one of first I think. He was very crazy about cars and went to New York Automobile Show in 1953 or 1954. I was in Saigon 14 years old. He told me many years later about white XK-120M roadster in that show that had gold everywhere that chrome was normally even the wire wheels. It made a big impression on him. Hearing about this car made a big impression on me because I am car crazy too.

There was a similar Austin Healey show car built...let's see: http://www.healeydata.com/cars/detail/?car=BN62260 . A local fellow had a red Sunbeam Alpine which he had done the same thing to. Frankly, it's incredibly tacky, no matter what car it's seen on!
