Jaguar D Type in Detail

More than any other car, I always find that the Jaguar D-type shows the legacy of World War II aviation technology as it applied to postwar sports cars.  It's almost like a fighter plane on wheels, and the men who raced them in the dark and rain to victory at Le Mans were no less brave!

I love this photoset, but I don't know where it came from.  If anyone knows the photographer, I'd love to give credits here.

Hi, I think these are from an article in Motorsport Magazine. The roads are in the NW Highlands of Scotland. I shall see if I can find the reference for you. Rgds, David

Motorsport Magazine? I found the pictures at Influx Magazine, but I may be wrong. http://www.influx.co.uk/wordpress/features/d-type-beneath-the-skin/

Hi, I can confirm that these amazing shots of the 1954 ex-Duncan Hamilton/Tony Rolt Jaguar D-type were taken by photographer James Lipman (www.jameslipman.com) for a feature in the January 2011 issue of Classic Cars magazine (called Thoroughbred and Classic Cars magazine outside the UK). I know this because I arranged the photoshoot, drove the cars, and wrote the feature comparing the D-type's technology with the E-type's – you can see the back of my head in the D-type, and I'm driving the E-type in the first shot.
The roads are in fact in North Wales, not Scotland. And, it was a very cold and damp day – I got pneumonia soon after!
